Ghana Black Stars head coach Avram Grant has defended his decision not to include a locally based outfield player in his squad for AFCON.
Only goalkeeper Richard Ofori of Wa All Stars made the cut and the Ghana trainer insists he was tasked to select players all over the world and was not asked to reserve a slot for locally based players.
“I was asked to name Ghanaian players for the Afcon but wasn’t asked to name them per the leagues they play.
” I pick players based on their commitment and desire to play for the country.
“Maybe in the future there will be segmentation in call ups to pick 5 local players,6 Europeans and e.t.c. but not in my time as a coach.” He said.
The team will begin an 11-day training tour in the UAE before travelling to Gabon on January 13 for the competition.
