Why would 11 fully grown men be messing up and one would be
unfairly singled out and abused?
How did Abdul Baba Rahman even wrong the Kumasi and Ghanaian football fans?
What exactly was his crime? Did he miss any crucial penalty for Ghana? Did he give away an intentional penalty to any opponent?
Words just can’t describe how horrible it was to see Abdul Baba Rahman being booed and jeered by Ghanaians in Oseikrom.
Otto Addo’s latest squad for Mali and the Central African Republic excluded the red-hot Abdul Baba Rahman. When the head coach was quizzed about why the 29-year-old was missing, he revealed that Baba said he wasn’t ready as he tried to convince him to change his mind.
Otto lamented the booing of Baba in Kumasi as it has led to him deciding to not return for Black Stars.
It all started when Ghana faced Portugal at the 2022 FIFA World Cup when Ghana narrowly lost 3-2 in the opening game of Group H.
On 24th November 2022 at Stadium 974 in Doha, many Ghanaians thought Baba Rahman’s performance was below average and hence developed hatred towards the left-back.
Baba failed to deal with Bruno Fernandes’ through pass to Joao Felix which resulted in Portugal’s second goal after Andre Ayew had put Ghana back on level terms. Portugal won 3-2 in Ghana’s opening game of the tournament.
Ghana faced the Central African Republic on 7th September 2023 in Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in Kumasi where the Black Stars triumphed 2-1.
Baba was booed anytime he touched. It was so annoying and heartbreaking as it broke him down.
He played for Asante Kotoko and therefore Baba Yara was once his home so it was very shocking to see him treated that way.
Put yourself in Baba’s shoes and decide for yourself! Will you still be having the appetite to represent Ghana?
Abdul Baba Rahman has disclosed that his abuse in Kumasi against Central African Republic has affected his entire family greatly.
I will be extremely surprised to see Baba Rahman ever return to Ghana. After all the struggles in his career, he has finally found his feet and has enjoyed a stellar season in Greece with PAOK.
Abdul Baba Rahman should concentrate on his club career and give up Ghana’s left-back role for others for peace to reign.
The former Chelsea left-back has a lot to offer Ghana but should enjoy his newfound happiness with PAOK.
