Maxwell Konadu, former coach of Asante Kotoko and Legon Cities, believes Ghana’s players are capable of giving their very best—so long as they feel the unwavering support of the nation behind them.
Speaking after Ghana’s strong showing during the March international break, Konadu emphasized that fan support plays a crucial role in motivating the Black Stars to perform at their highest level.
“When the players know the country is behind them, they will give everything. But if the spirit of the nation is missing, it doesn’t matter who you invite—they will struggle,” Konadu told Graphic Sports.
His comments come after the Black Stars recorded back-to-back victories in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, thumping Chad 5-0 in Accra and beating Madagascar 3-0 in Morocco. The wins have put Ghana at the top of Group I with 15 points and four matches left to play.
Konadu noted that the belief within the team is growing again and attributed much of the turnaround to unity and the backing from key stakeholders.
“That first win was everything. It brought back belief in the team. Now, we are confident that Ghana can qualify for the World Cup,” he added.
He credited not just the players but also the Ghana Football Association, the government, and the fans for rallying behind the national team at a crucial time.
The Black Stars are scheduled to return to action in September, with fixtures against Chad and Mali as they continue their pursuit of a spot at the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
