The Chief Executive Officer of Asante Kotoko, Nana Yaw Amponsah has revealed why the club hired Portuguese trainer Mariano Bareto to coach the Kumasi-based club.
The Porcupine Warriors appointed the former Black Stars gaffer before the start of the second round of the Ghana Premier League.
He replaced Maxwell Konadu who was shown the exit after failing to impress his bosses after playing just five matches.
Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, the CEO mentioned that his outfit decided appoint a coach in good position to manage egos at the club as most of the players had earned call ups into the Black Stars.
“The reason why hired Mariano was that at the time, most of Asante Kotoko players were getting called up to the Black Stars and we needed someone to manage the egos” he said.
Mariano Bareto guided Kotoko to finish 2nd on the league log in the just-ended season and are seeking to win the MTN FA Cup.
Kotoko will host Berekum Chelsea in the quarter-finals on Sunday at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi.
