Former National Democratic Congress national youth organizer Yaw Boateng Gyan has urged politicians from meddling in football affairs as chaos in Ghana football especially in the Division One continues to escalate.
Boateng Gyan who is currently the board chairman of Division One Zone One side Bofoakwa Tano believes the lack of peaceful competition in the second-tier is due to people in power trying to influence matches to favor certain clubs of their interest.
“It is very wrong our game has gotten to this level , to the extent that some politicians gave decided to interfere in our cherished sport. That is completely wrong” Boateng Gyan told Fox FM in Kumasi.
“Once upon a time I was very close to the President of Ghana John Dramani Mahama but I never used my power to influence games to favor my club Bofoakwa Tano because I felt football is completely independent sport with its rules and regulations that have to be respected” he continued.
“I hear the vice president of the Republic of Ghana (Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia) is a staunch RTU fan and is bent on helping them to secure qualification and partake in next season Ghana Premier League. If that is true I will admonish him not to go on that tangent” he added.
Bofoakwa Tano – Yaw Boateng Gyan’s club – lead the Zone One table on 58 points after 27 matches whilst RTU are 2nd with 53 having played a game less a their last game against B.A United ended abruptly at the Sunyani Coronation Park last Sunday.
