Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Fredrick Asare has shared his thoughts on the coaching transition at the club, praising both Prosper Narteh Ogum and Abdul Karim Zito for their influence during the 2024/25 season.
The Porcupine Warriors began the campaign under Coach Ogum, but a series of underwhelming results saw Karim Zito take over midway through the season. Despite the change, Kotoko managed to end the season on a high, clinching the 2024/25 MTN FA Cup title after a 2-1 win over Golden Kick FC.
Speaking to Citi Sports, Asare revealed that adapting to the new coach’s system wasn’t challenging due to the similarities in the tactical approaches of both managers.
“I think they have almost the same style of play, so the transition wasn’t that difficult,” Asare said. “We didn’t find it difficult because we were willing to do something for ourselves.”
The goalkeeper was instrumental in Kotoko’s successful FA Cup run and overall campaign. His consistent performances between the posts earned him praise, and his contributions were key in helping the team secure qualification for the 2024/25 CAF Confederation Cup.
As Kotoko now prepare for continental football, Asare will be looking to maintain his fine form and help the club make an impact in Africa.
