Captain of he senior national team team, Andre Ayew has admitted the Black Stars faced a difficult opposition in Ethiopia in the opener of their World Cup qualifiers of Friday, but is delighted his team walked away with all three points.
Ghana managed a 1-0 win over their opponent courtesy a well-taken strike by midfield engine Mubarak Wakaso, which ensured the Stars walked away with the maximum points at the Cape Coast Stadium.
Coach Charles Akonnor’s side began the game on quite a good note, pressing their rivals but were unable to cause so much trouble, needing a 35th minute strike from Wakaso to seal the game.
The Black Stars performance in the second half was far from convincing but the only positive was the game being won though the team received some heavy criticism.
Reacting to the game afterwards, Ayew, who led the team on the pitch posted on social media: “Three points. Nothing comes easy. Not a full stadium but great atmosphere. We thank all Ghanaians for the support and love … we keep going.”
Ghana plays away to South Africa in their next game of the qualifying campaign on Monday.
