The Black Queens of Ghana made a huge stride toward qualifying for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) with an impressive 3-0 victory over Egypt in Ismailia on Thursday evening.
Head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren fielded a strong side led by Doris Boaduwaa, supported by Stella Nyamekye, Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah, and Alice Kusi, with Jennifer Cudjoe and Grace Asantewaa controlling the midfield. Cynthia Konlan started in goal, protected by a solid backline of Comfort Yeboah, Susan Ama Duah, Portia Boakye, and Josephine Bonsu.

After a lively start from the hosts, Ghana gradually took control, and just before halftime, Cudjoe split the Egyptian defence with a perfect pass to Boaduwaa, who finished calmly to give the Queens the lead.
The second half belonged entirely to Ghana. Egypt’s hopes faded after one of their players was sent off for a reckless tackle on Asantewaa. The Black Queens continued to press, with Josephine Bonsu hitting the post and Mary Amponsah denied by the crossbar.

Their persistence paid off when Amponsah reacted quickly to score from a rebound after Princess Marfo’s header was parried away. Moments later, Grace Asantewaa sealed the win with a fine finish to make it 3-0.

The return leg takes place on Tuesday, October 28, at the Accra Sports Stadium, where Ghana will aim to complete the job and secure their spot at the 2026 WAFCON in Morocco.
