Nigeria secured a 2-1 win over Ghana in the semi-final of the Unity Cup 2025 at the London City Stadium on Tuesday evening. It was a competitive match between two long-time rivals, with both teams showing moments of quality, but Nigeria took their chances better and booked a place in the final.
The Super Eagles started strongly and opened the scoring in the 17th minute through a well-taken goal following a quick counter-attack. Ghana responded by trying to control possession and build their way back into the match but struggled to create clear chances in the first half.
Early in the second half, Nigeria doubled their lead with a powerful finish inside the box after a defensive error from Ghana. The goal gave Nigeria a cushion and put pressure on the Black Stars to respond.
Ghana made several substitutions to add more energy, including the introduction of Caleb Yirenkyi, who added creativity and drive in midfield. Their efforts were rewarded late in the game when they pulled one back with a low shot from inside the area after a good passing move.
Despite Ghana’s late push, Nigeria held on to their lead and managed the final moments of the game well. The result sends Nigeria into the final of the Unity Cup, while Ghana will look to regroup and learn from
the match as they continue preparing for future competitions with third place up for grabs against Trinidad and Tobacco on Saturday.
