Ibrahim Tanko, the head coach of the Ghana U-23 team, Black Meteors did not shy away from acknowledging the team’s lack of quality following their disappointing performance in the U-23 AFCON tournament.
The Black Meteors drew 1-1 with Guinea in their final Group match and got evicted from the competition with four points.
In a post-match interview, Tanko candidly admitted, “Yes, everybody saw it, definitely we are not the best in this tournament when it comes to quality but we are definitely working hard as a country. The FA is trying to change something but definitely we have to do more like you said“
Tanko pointed out the noticeable gap in quality between their pre-tournament friendly against Egypt and their performance in the tournament.
He emphasized the need for the team to catch up and make improvements swiftly, or else time will run out for them to achieve their desired level of competitiveness.
“When you look at the game against Egypt (pre-tournament friendly) and today, you could see that yes, I think we need to catch up otherwise it’s going to be too late”
Ghana were tied on four points with Guinea but were knocked out due to inferior goal difference.
