On 18th June 2005 the Black Stars of Ghana produced one of the biggest away performances the national team has ever recorded by defeating South Africa two goals to nothing in a crucial FIFA World Cup qualifier.
Mattew Amoah in the 59th minute gave Ghana an important breakthrough before Chelsea star Michael Essien killed the game in the 90th minute.
That victory at the FNB stadium in Johannesburg put the Black Stars in a strong position to qualify for their first ever FIFA World Cup in Germany 2006. This represents the last time Ghana recorded a great result on the road against a credible African opposition.
The Black Stars failed to qualify for the last global tournament in Russia 2018 and to prevent a successive disappointment the Black Stars need to produce a miracle in Abuja.
For some Ghanaians this is possible whilst other Ghanaian fans and majority of Nigerians see this as mission impossible.
“We will do everything to qualify in Nigeria. We are going out there, to kill ourselves to qualify.” Ghana Football Association Executive Committee member Randy Abbey have said.
Do you think Otto Addo’s Black Stars have what it takes to qualify ahead of Nigeria on Tuesday?
