Legon Cities manager Bashir Hayford spoke to the Royals media team to preview their match-day six clash against Ebusua Dwarfs Friday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Royals lost to Asante Kotoko in match-day five after two successive draws against Medeama SC and Dreams FC but this time round will be looking to grab their first three-points of the season when they host Ebusua Dwarfs tomorrow evening.
Legon Cities are the only club yet to score from open play in the league this term and have in fact gone five games without winning any. Ebusua Dwarfs are placed 15th on the league log with four points, having won one game from the four they have played so far.
Bashir Hayford on mood at the camp after going zero wins from five games:
“I already came to meet a solemn mood in camp, they had already played three games when I came in and I have played two so far. I have already identified the problems in the team, which happens to be goal scoring. The boys lack the courage to put the ball at the back of the net when they create the chances. According to the research I did, it appears they haven’t done much goal scoring, now all the training session we did, we have time to work on our finishing, finishing and finishing. We need to practice what we do at training session during games. We have been scoring, scoring and scoring in all kinds of different situations at all our training sessions. So far, the mood is okay, I have charged them to get something home as we will soon leave for the Christmas break.”
On whether there is a pressure to win at all cost on Friday:
“I will not say there is pressure but what I will say is a do-or-die afar on Friday. We have to win, though the league is young but the position we are is unacceptance and that is why we need to win tomorrow at all cost. The boys themselves are poised to win this match.”
What it will be like for the first win tomorrow:
“Not just me or the players but the management and our fans, everyone will be excited.”
Whether he has worked on his strikers ahead of tomorrow:
“I keep working on all my strikers always, not just striker A, B or C. We need every one of them. Definitely, they will all have their chances in the season. I have full confidence in them.”
On his opponents tomorrow:
“I know them a lot, I was there before I left to Somalia. Almost all the players that I worked with them are still around, just some few who have left. When the league started, I got the chance to watch their first game [vs. Elmina Sharks] and so we will be ready for them.”
On a possible win tomorrow:
“We have done everything that we need to do ahead of the game tomorrow. I don’t promise win(s) but we will be up to the task tomorrow.”
Message for the fans:
“The fans mean a lot to us. What I will ask them is that, they should exercise patience for us, although they haven’t gotten the win and goals yet, in our game tomorrow, there will be goals, that, I can assure them”
