The ex-Cameroonian gaffer has been identified as a possible replacement to take affairs of Bafana Bafana.
South African Football Association (SAFA) have reached out to the Belgian tactician after a search for a replacement following the sacking of Molefi Ntseki.
Bafana Bafana disgracefully lost out on a ticket for the continent’s most prestigious tournament after playing 3rd behind Ghana and Sudan, the outcome meant Molefi Ntseki would be ousted of his duties. Speculations have been widespread about possible names to take over the job including Benin McCarthy, Hugo Broos and Carlos Queiroz.
All the speculations have however been put to bed with confirmation of the 2017 AFCON winner Hugo Broos and contact with SAFA. “the only thing I am willing to say for now is that there was contact with me one week ago. I don’t know what is going to happen in the next day or coming days” the Belgian noted.
If officially appointed, his first duty will be qualifying Bafana Bafana to the 2022 world cup In Qatar. The South African Nation team have missed out on the world cup in recent times with their last appearance coming in 2010 when they benefitted as host of the tournament.
The Southern African country last tasted glory in 1996 when they won the AFCON after beating Tunisia 2-0 in the final. Hugo Broos left the Indomitable Lions to KV Oostende but is currently unattached.
