Just days before the commencement of the 2023 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Kamaldeen Suelemana, the Southampton winger, made a surprising decision to withdraw from the Black Meteors squad.
This unexpected move left many questioning the player’s commitment, but it was revealed that he had no choice but to comply with his club’s demand.
According to rumors, Southampton prohibited Suelemana from participating in the tournament due to the fact that the CAF competition lacks FIFA sanctioning.
Despite initially being included in both the provisional and final squads, the 21-year-old winger made a late decision to withdraw from the national team.
Meanwhile, Ghana finds themselves on the verge of an early exit from the competition, requiring a victory in their final group stage match to secure a spot in the semi-finals.
After a 3-2 victory over Congo in their opening match, they suffered a resounding 5-1 defeat against Morocco in their second game.
Currently tied on points with Guinea, the Black Meteors must defeat their opponents in the crucial upcoming fixture on Friday, June 30, 2023, in order to progress to the next stage.
