Former Black Stars striker, Prince Poku Polley has expressed worry over the demise of colts football in Ghana insisting that, it is the reason for the continues decline in quality of players in the country.
According to the ex-Asante Kotoko man, the inability of the Ghana Football Association to have a proper colts system is to blame for the low standard of play in the Ghanaian leagues which is having a rippling effect on the national teams.
Speaking to Asempa FM in Accra, Polley insinuated that the football academy system that is being widely practiced in Ghana currently is only but helping the Europeans whose sole aim is to transfer the country’s most talented football players to their continent at amateur ages.
He called on the Ghana Football Association to bring back the colts football system in order to salvage the sports once more.
Addressing the issue of who becomes the next Black Stars Coach, Prince Polley stated that he believes expatriate coaches have not helped the country in recently and that is about time the GFA considers a local trainer.
He added that his former team mate James Kwesi Appiah has shown in the past that he is capable of doing the job if called upon.
Polley, along with Kwesi Appiah played together for the Black Stars at the 1992 African Cup of Nations in Senegal where the where Ghana lost on penalties to neighbors Cote D’Ivoire
