Fred Pappoe- a Black Stars management committee memeber, says the negative reportage on social media is makes it difficult for Ghanaian players born abroad to accept call-up to play for the Black Stars.
The current Ghana Football Association [GFA] leadership has been on a mission to convince Ghanaian players born abroad to switch and feature for the Black Stars.
The FA have held talks with the likes of Brighton right back Tariq Lamptey, Arsenal’s forward Eddie Nketiah, Brian Brobbey, Derrick Luckassen and winger of European champions, Callum Hudson-Odoi to play for the West African powerhouse.
However, the former Ghana FA vice president believes the negative commentaries on social media has been a major hindrance for the players to welcome the call-up.
“If you have a situation where people go on social media, people are at liberty to express their views on social media and consistently advice the players not to come and play for Ghana. All these things are bound to have an effect on them, ” Pappoe told JoySports.
“I am sure you’ve seen a lot of those comments on social media all over the place. We read all those things, we see all those things and I am sure the boys also read all those things,”.
The Black Stars have ramped up preparations ahead of the FIFA World Cup doubleheader against Zimbabwe on Saturday, October 12 with the second leg coming up three days later.
