Club Licensing Board has already approved at least three out of the more than twenty venues submitted by Ghana Premier League clubs ahead of the 2023/24 season.
The approved venues include the Accra Sports Stadium, Baba Yara Sports Stadium, and WAFA Park in Sogakope. However, these approvals are conditional and are part of the ongoing inspection exercise conducted by the Club Licensing Board for all eighteen Premier League clubs.
Julius Ben Emunah, the Manager of the Club Licensing Department, shared this disclosure during an exclusive interview on Onua TV’s Agro Fie on July 27, 2023.
In preparation for the upcoming 2023/24 betPawa Premier League, all eighteen Premier League clubs have submitted their proposed match venues, as well as alternative venues, in compliance with the Club Licensing Regulations of the Ghana Football Association.
Mr. Emunah specifically mentioned that the Kumasi Baba Yara, Accra Sports Stadium, and WAFA Park have already been approved for use in the upcoming GPL season. This approval allows clubs like Hearts of Oak, Asante Kotoko, Accra Great Olympics, and Accra Lions to utilize these venues as their primary home grounds.
Additionally, WAFA Park in Sogakope has been approved as an alternative venue for both Accra Great Olympics and Accra Lions.
Mr. Emunah emphasized that only pitches meeting the club licensing standards will be accepted for the season. Consequently, several artificial pitches previously used for GPL matches might not meet the required standards and will not be accepted this time.
The 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season is set to kick off between September 15-18, 2023.
