Portuguese trainer Jose Peseiro has confirmed his decision to mutually part ways with the Super Green Eagles of Nigeria after both parties failed to reach an agreement for him to continue his job.
Jose Peseiro, 63, has been the head coach of Nigeria for the last 22 months after succeeding Augustine Eguavoen.
The former Real Madrid assistant manager has had a roller-coaster moment as the head coach of Nigeria after struggling in qualifiers but delivered in the 2023 AFCON.
Nigeria was in shambles during the opening two games of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers as they drew both games against Lesotho and Zimbabwe. Many Nigerians called for his sacking but the NFF stood by him and he turned things around in Ivory Coast as Nigeria played one of their best football in recent years.
His departure means Nigeria will be in the market for a new coach who will be tasked to win the 2025 AFCON and also qualify the Super Eagles for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
