The Egyptian Football Association has parted ways with Portuguese tactician Rui Vitoria with immediate effect after a horrible 2023 AFCON campaign.
The 7 times winners of the AFCON were optimistic heading into Ivory Coast but had one of their worst-ever AFCON tournaments as they did not win a single game.
Egypt drew all 3 games in Group B after playing 2-2 against Mozambique, Ghana and Cape Verde. Egypt finished second in the group with just 3 points.
In Round 16, the Pharaohs drew 1-1 against the Leopards of DR Congo after 120 minutes of action. They lost on penalties and exited the 2023 AFCON.
The performance Egypt put up in Ivory Coast was very shambolic and hence has sacked Portuguese coach Ruo Vitoria.
He will be replaced by Mohamed Youssef as interim head coach.
Herve Renard is the likely candidate to replace Rui Vitoria as the Egyptian Football Association has contacted the French tactician who also has shown a keen interest in the job.
