Ghanaian forward Kwabena Owusu has voiced his frustration over being overlooked for recent Black Stars call-ups, despite his impressive form in Europe.
The striker, who has been playing in the UEFA Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League, says he feels it’s unfair that he is not part of the national team setup.
According to him, he has scored more goals than any of the current Black Stars strikers yet continues to be sidelined. Owusu pointed out the irony in the situation, saying he used to get national team call-ups when he was playing in lower divisions, but now that he’s competing at the highest levels of European football, the invitations have stopped.
“It’s hard to understand. I was getting call-ups when I was playing in the lower divisions, but now that I’m at the top level, playing in Europe’s biggest competitions, I’ve been ignored. None of the Black Stars strikers has goals than me, currently. This season, i scored 9 goals in 14 games,” Owusu lamented on Pure FM.
He believes personal issues may be at play, suggesting that some decision-makers may have taken matters personally against him.
“I feel like some people have taken things personally. I deserve a chance based on performance alone,” he added.
Addressing rumors that he’s disrespectful, Owusu strongly denied the claims and challenged his critics to back their allegations with facts:
“They say I’m disrespectful. I want them to show me where I disrespected anyone. I have always given my best and shown respect.”
