Ghanaian central defender, Mohammed Salisu has revealed some of his struggles he went through in the early stages of his life as he aimed at fulfilling his footballing dreams.
Salisu, after an unconvincing first season in the Premier League with Southampton has become one of their best players since the start of the 2021/22 campaign.
The centre-back said he had to skip school for football at some point only to see his mum destroy his playing foot-wears as she wanted him to focus on education.
Sharing his story on how his journey as a footballer began, the player said: “I always dreamed of becoming a footballer since I was a child.
“I used to play on the sand pitches with no boots. I always went to play football even when my parents wanted me to go to school. My mum took my shoes and spoilt it because I didn’t go to school.”
The Ghanaian also added that he relishes how far he has come following his initial struggles, describing the opportunity to play in the Premier League as proud moments.
“This is a dream come true – playing in the sand without boots and ending up here in the Premier League, I am very proud of what I have achieved in my life,” Salisu continued.
