Asante Kotoko advanced to the Round of 16 of the MTN FA Cup with a hard-fought 2-0 victory over lower-tier side Acceler8z FC at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.
The Porcupine Warriors faced a determined opponent but managed to secure the win thanks to moments of quality and composure.
Coach Prosper Ogum made several adjustments to his lineup, giving fringe players the chance to showcase their skills. Despite dominating possession, it took a moment of brilliance from Kwame Poku to break the deadlock just before halftime. Poku confidently converted a penalty after Saaka Dauda was brought down in the box, handing Kotoko a 1-0 advantage at the break.
The second half saw Acceler8z FC putting up a spirited fight, forcing Kotoko to stay disciplined and work hard to protect their lead. Substitute Ansu Henry eased the pressure late in the game, doubling the lead with a well-taken goal to seal the victory and send the home fans into celebration.
This win keeps Kotoko’s dreams alive of lifting the FA Cup for the first time since their 2017 triumph. As nine-time champions, the Porcupine Warriors are eager to reclaim their dominance in the competition. With their sights set on silverware this season, they now await the draw for the next round, hoping to continue their march toward glory.
