Former Ghana U17 skipper Eric Ayiah has revealed the decision to sign for AS Monaco was not solely his idea although he liked the option.
Ayiah joined the French side in 2018 having played for Ghana at the U-17 world cup in 2017 held in India.
The then Black Starlets skipper was instrumental for Ghana and did so many exploits as the Black Starlets were eliminated from the quarterfinals of the competition.
Speaking in an interview with sportswolrdghana.com, the forward revealed there were so many offers on the table after the competition but he left everything for his representatives.
“If I recall, I had offers from Porto, AC Milan as well as Anderlecht,” he said.
“I was ready to play in Europe but I didn’t have any preference for a particular team back then.”
He also mentioned that the move to France was not his choice but he liked the idea of playing thereafter the offer came.
“It wasn’t my choice [to sign for Monaco], but I liked it,” he added.
“While on holidays in Portugal after the world cup, my representatives and I met Jorge Mendes because Charity Stars had links with him. Mendes decided to sign me after watching some of my videos from the tournament. He praised my talent and decided to help me.”
“He had initially wanted me to join Wolves in England, but he held talks with the Monaco president and things moved on from there.”
Though Ayiah is yet to make his official debut for the French side, he was part of their team for last summer’s pre-season.
