Southampton FC defender Mohammed Salisu says he is currently focusing on club football instead of aiming to play for the Ghana national team, the Black Stars.
The talented centre-back recently declared his readiness to play for the West African powerhouse following his move to the English Premier League.
Salisu joined the Premier League side from La Liga outfit, Real Valladolid in a deal worth €10.9m.
According to the 21-year-old, he is in no rush to play for the Black Stars as he believes commanding a key role in Southampton’s team should be his priority.
“But I think this is not the right moment to play in the national team. I think I need to focus on the club side because I am young, I think I need to focus on the club first and then after, when everything is fine, I can go and play for Ghana,” he told Joy Sports.
Salisu made his debut for The Saints however did not come till their 2-0 FA Cup win over Wolves six months after his signing.
He featured in Southampton 2-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur. The left-footed central defender is yet to make his debut for the Ghana national team despite being handed his debut invitation by former Ghana coach Kwasi Appiah in 2019 for the Cup of Nations qualifiers against South African and Sao Tome and Principe.
