Mohammed Gargo, a former Ghanaian international, has urged caution regarding the hype surrounding Abednego Tetteh, the current leading goal scorer in the Ghana Premier League.
Gargo’s comments come in response to calls for Tetteh’s inclusion in the Black Stars squad due to his impressive performances in the league. The Bibiani Gold Stars striker has scored an impressive 16 goals in 27 games and is in contention for the golden boot with two matches remaining in the season.
Speaking on Radio Gold Sports, Gargo shared his perspective on Tetteh’s potential inclusion, emphasizing the need for a gradual approach. He stated, “They should invite him to the national team, but they should ease him into it. They shouldn’t call him up and expect him to replace someone who has accomplished a lot and is playing in Europe.”
Gargo also cautioned against excessive expectations and premature hype, noting, “We tend to excessively hype our players. It would be good if he gets called up, but he should come and learn from the experience. He shouldn’t be burdened with expectations when things aren’t going well for the Black Stars. Relying solely on Abednego will not benefit us. The local players are not yet at that level.”
Gargo’s advice suggests a balanced approach to Tetteh’s potential inclusion in the national team, focusing on his development and integration into the squad rather than placing excessive pressure on him at an early stage.
