Medeama SC kicked off the new year with a crucial 1-0 triumph over Karela United in an outstanding Ghana Premier League match at the TnA Stadium in Tarkwa on Wednesday.
Under the leadership of interim coach Augustine Adotey, the former league champions claimed their first win in a gritty encounter. The decisive moment came in added time of the first half when defender Kofi Asmah found the back of the net, delivering the only goal of the match.
Medeama controlled the game with 58% possession and created multiple chances, but they struggled to make the most of their opportunities. Despite registering 17 goal attempts and six shots on target, the home side could not add to their tally, keeping the game on edge.
Karela United, on the other hand, endured another frustrating outing. Their eight goal attempts failed to produce a single shot on target, highlighting their ongoing issues in attack. This marks their third consecutive match without a win, leaving them desperate to turn their season around.
The victory moves Medeama to seventh place on the league table, and with a game in hand, they have a chance to climb further.
For Karela United, the defeat emphasizes the urgency of addressing their poor form as they continue to search for a way out of their struggles.
