Ghana Black Satellites recorded their first win in the ongoing 2019 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations over neighbouring country Burkina Faso at the Maradi Stadium on Monday.
The game which was originally scheduled for Sunday had to be played on Monday after floodlights at the match venue failed to work but Ghana knowing the task at stake did they beat to seal an emphatic victory over their Burkinabes counterparts.
Striker Daniel Lomotey scored on the 40th and 77th minute to power Jimmy Cobblah’s side a thrilling victory in their Group B opening match.
The Burkinabes team almost pulled one back in the 84th minute but thanks to Nurudeen Manaf’s excellent ensured no ball entered the posts.
Ghana dominated possession with 52% against Burkina Faso who had 42% of the ball possession.
Jummy Cobblah introduced Striker Emmanuel Toku into the game in the 65th minute after coming on to replace Sadiq Ibrahim.
Burkina Faso looked more purposeful in the closing stages of the game but their incessant pressure on the Ghanaian defense could not get them any goal, ending the game with a 2-0 defeat.
Prosper Ahiabu replaced Mohammed Kudus with Michael Baidoo coing on for Emmanuel Kumah.
Ghana will play joint leaders Senegal on Wednesday and will book an early 2019 FIFA U20 World Cup qualification ticket if they win.
