Former coach of the Black Meteors, Malik Jabir has bemoaned the lack of support and attention given to the team by the nation.
The aggrieved coach stated that he was shocked at the kind of treatment the team received from the Ghana Football Association, the Sports Ministry and the media during their preparations for the games in Congo. Malik in his words described the team as a “forgotten team”.
Malik took charge of the team’s abysmal performance at the 2015 All Africa games but believes that the team would have done pretty much better if they had the required support and attention
The legendary Kotoko player highlighted a number of factors that mitigated against the team.
“The preparations right from the onset was poor. On two occasions we had to be evacuated from our hotel whiles camping in Tamale because of unsettled payments” Malik said on Kumasi based Ultimate FM.
Malik also cited the delay in the start of the Ghana Premier League as a factor that went against team. According to him, the team’s training was disrupted by players who had to move in and out of camp to play for their clubs “The league delayed because of court cases. It was started very late so a lot matches had to be played within a short period which had negative impact on the players”. Also some of the players had to leave camp to join their respective clubs to play league matches”.
Malik was relieved of his post after the woeful display by the Black Meteors in the All Africa games as the buck always stops with the coach but the latest revelations will be enough to convince people who held the view that the man who is currently Kotoko’s technical director is technically and tactically bankrupt that Malik is a good coach who worked under unfavorable conditions.
