Cercle Brugge midfielder Lawrence Agyekum believes staying consistent at club level will be key to cementing his place in the Black Stars after making a promising start to his senior international career.
The 21-year-old made his debut for Ghana in the emphatic 5-0 win over Chad during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and followed up with another strong showing in the Unity Cup, where he scored in the 4-0 victory against Trinidad and Tobago in the third-place playoff.
Speaking to Joy Sports, Agyekum acknowledged that maintaining high performance standards at Cercle Brugge is essential if he is to remain in Otto Addo’s plans.
“Now I want to keep focusing on my development to be consistent at the club level, because if you don’t do well it’s going to be difficult to get a national team call-up,” he said.
“I just want to be consistent, and then hopefully if I get a call-up, I will still give my 100% on the pitch like I do at the club level.”
Agyekum initially joined Cercle Brugge on loan from Red Bull Salzburg but impressed enough to earn a permanent deal before the end of last season. With his club future settled, the former WAFA midfielder now has his sights firmly set on a sustained role with the Black Stars.
