According to a report by Sompa FM’s Atta Poku, a laundryman who has been providing laundry services for Ghana Premier League club Legon Cities has seized the club’s jersey over debt.
During Legon Cities’ Premier League fixture against Gold Stars on Monday afternoon at Dun’s Park in Bibiani, defender Nicholas Mensah came on in the 43rd minute to replace Sung Ibrahim, and his jersey number was covered with plaster, which caused a stir on social media.
During their midweek match against Kotoko, Nicholas Mensah sported a jersey with the number 6 and his name printed on it. However, in yesterday’s game where the Royals suffered a 2-3 defeat, he concealed his number and name on the jersey. Additionally, several substitutes on the team also had their jersey numbers and names obscured, as per reports.

Atta Poku explains that the club has been facing financial difficulties this season and has been unable to pay their laundry bills, forcing the laundry shop owner to seize some of their jerseys.
He further states that the club currently has only thirteen available jerseys, and the one Nicholas Mensah wore was given to a player’s brother but had to be taken back due to the seizure of their jerseys by the laundryman.

Legon Cities have been battling relegation this season in the betPawa Premier League, sitting 16th on the log with 28 points after 25 matches.
Legon Cities’ next league game is against Kotoku Royals at home. However, before that, they will face Dreams FC in the quarterfinal of the MTN FA Cup.
