Former Ghana coach James Kwasi Appiah has offered advice to his former club’s leadership about the strategic measures they ought to put in place to ensure the Porcupine Warriors recapture their glorious status on the African soil.
Appiah believes the club being able to at least maintain the core of their team for the next three seasons would help them assemble a fearsome and formidable squad capable of conquering Africa.
The Ghanaian giants have failed to keep most of their star performers over the last three years despite their strong desire to win either the Caf Champions League or the Confederation Cup.
”Everyone must play his role very well in Kotoko reclaiming its lost glories but the supporters have the greatest of the role to play. They put pressure on coaches and management for results,” Appiah told KUMASI FM 104.1MHZ.
”Everyone must have patience as we find ways of keeping our players for at least two or three years and how the technical team and management will work effectively.
”If all these things are put in place very well and the supporters exercise patience for the technical team to work on the team, automatically the target of winning trophies on the continent in the next two or three years will materialize.
”We cannot just sign players, assemble them, and dream of winning trophies because we are Kotoko.
The former Kotoko captain added that players were not in a rush to travel abroad during their playing days at the club unlike today, something he says helped the club to succeed and win African titles.
”During our days, we were not interested in traveling abroad, it was our dream to play for Kotoko. In 1981 when I was called into the national team, all the Blackstars players wished to play for Kotoko.
”Team building was effective during our era but these days players move out just after an impressive performance for just a month,” he concluded.
