Football administrator George Afriyie has leveled serious allegations against Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku, accusing him of financial improprieties during his tenure as Administrative Manager of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA).
In an interview with Asempa FM, Afriyie claimed that Okraku’s time at GHALCA was tainted by alleged embezzlement of funds meant for the association.
“Kurt Okraku’s first significant role before becoming a club owner was as Administrative Manager at GHALCA. The funds in his care were embezzled,” Afriyie asserted.
He alleged that some individuals within the organization used the association’s resources for personal benefits, including purchasing vehicles and distributing loans.
“Some bought cars with it, some gave it out as loans, and they shared it among themselves,” he said.
Afriyie further alleged that Okraku’s management style eventually led to his removal from the position, a move spearheaded by prominent figures in Ghanaian football at the time.
“Cudjoe Fianoo and Oluboi Commodore led the charge and overthrew Kurt,” he claimed.
These allegations come amid growing criticism of Okraku’s leadership at the GFA, with many stakeholders questioning the state of football in Ghana under his administration.
Neither Kurt Okraku nor the GFA has responded to Afriyie’s claims at this time.
