One the interesting games to follow this weekend in the Ghana premier league is the Asante Kotoko – Inter Allies fixture and all attention falls on Victorien Adebayor.
After Amed Toure of Bechem United and Komlan Agbegniadan of WAFA last season, Adebayor has started giving indications that he can well add his name to the rich list of foreign professionals in our league who made a good mark.
The Nigerien national needed just his first game on his full competitive debut to enter into the history books of Inter Allies scoring a brace on his debut and winning the man of the match award.No Inter Allies player had achieved this feat prior.
But on Sunday coming face to face with one of the best goalkeepers in the country – Felix Annan – Adebayor has a more credible test. Beating Prince Asempa of Bechem United is one thing and scoring against Felix Annan is another. We all know it that Asempah is not Felix.
Can Adebayor score in Kumasi? Why not. He is more than capable. Among the player to beat Felix at Kumasi last season were David Agordome of Olympics, Kwaku Asuandzie of All Stars, Sam Adams of Aduana, Bismark Oppong of Medeama, Kwame Kizito of Hearts of Oak and others and so why not Adebayor?
The Allies striker , by his brace against Bechem United. has started attracting high expectations and so must he live with it. The best is always demanded from the best and on Sunday one reason why fans will troop the stadium is to watch the new striking sensation of Inter Allies.
There is also the Kenichi Yatsuhashi factor who will be leading a club to play at the Babayara for the first time. In charge of Hearts of Oak in 2016, Kenichi was beaten by Kotoko 1-0 but that game was played at the Accra Sports stadium on May 2nd and it was decided by Soulama Abdoulaye’s blunder.
