Nana Yaw Amponsah has disagreed with calls from some football people in Ghana for Kumasi Asante Kotoko to open up the club for people to buy shares, adding that the club represents more of an institution than just a football club.
Speaking in an interview with EIB Network’s Nana Aba Anamoah last week, long-serving sports journalist and SWAG president, Kwabena Yeboah suggested Kotoko opens up to some section of the public who can afford buying shares in the club to do so.
However, the club’s Chief Executive Officer says he does not agree to such opinions as a way of generating funds for the Kumasi-based outfit, stressing that Kotoko ‘float the Golden Stool for money.’
“I respect the idea of the writer [Kwabena Yeboah], that is his opinion but I bet to differ at some extent…Kotoko is not just a football club, it’s a whole institution. It represents the Golden Stool of Ashanti,” Nana Yaw Amponsah explained on Starr FM.
“You cannot just by way of business mind say that the golden stool should be floated for money. It is not everything that is about business. It is deeper than what he makes it seem,” he added.
The former Ghana Football Association presidential aspirant went on to explain the various ways through which clubs can raise funds.
