Ghanaian midfielder Enock Morrison, who currently stars for Kenyan Premier League giants Gor Mahia, has confirmed that the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has approached him over a possible nationality switch.
However, the former Asante Kotoko player insists his heart remains with Ghana and the dream of one day representing the Black Stars.
In an interview, Morrison revealed that discussions with FKF officials have progressed, with paperwork already presented to facilitate the switch. But he has asked for time to reflect and consult with his family.
“I’ve been approached by the Kenyan FA to consider naturalizing for them. They’ve brought documents to sign, but I’ve told them to hold on so I can consult my family first,” Morrison said.
“I’ve visited their federation headquarters twice, but I’m the one delaying the process. I personally want to play for my homeland Ghana. I want to be watched by my family and friends when I represent a country. In Kenya, I don’t have that connection, and it won’t feel the same. My dream has always been to play for the Black Stars.”
Morrison began his professional career with King Faisal before earning a move to Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko in 2022. During the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season, he made 22 appearances for the Porcupine Warriors, scoring once and assisting twice. He was released at the end of the season as part of a broad squad reshuffle after Kotoko finished sixth.
In July 2024, Morrison joined Gor Mahia on a two-year deal and quickly adapted to life in Kenyan football. Initially signed as a defensive midfielder, he has since transitioned into a more attacking role following an injury to star midfielder Austin Odhiambo.
His impact has been immediate. In a match against Mathare United, Morrison registered an assist and netted the winning penalty in a 2-1 comeback win. In the preceding fixture against Posta Rangers, he delivered two assists, further showcasing his creative flair and tactical intelligence.
Gor Mahia fans have taken to the Ghanaian, affectionately nicknaming him “Onyango,” a traditional Dholuo name, in recognition of his growing influence and commitment on the pitch.
While the FKF’s interest remains active, Morrison is focused on helping Gor Mahia compete for domestic honours and maintaining the form that could finally earn him a call-up to the Ghana national team.
“I respect Kenya and the opportunity, but my dream is to wear the Ghana jersey. Until then, I’ll keep giving my all on the pitch and trust that the right doors will open,” he concluded.
