Ghanaian international Kamaldeen Sulemana has been recognised as Southampton Football Club’s Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Community Champion for the 2024/25 season.
The award, presented annually by the PFA, honours players who make meaningful contributions off the pitch through community engagement. Sulemana earned this recognition for his active involvement in local outreach projects delivered through the club’s charitable arm, the Saints Foundation.
His dedication stood out throughout the season, with numerous appearances at community events and schools. Notably, he attended a Community Champions session at Oasis Academy Mayfield, where he impressed staff by tailoring his communication style to connect with a wide range of students.
In another instance, Sulemana went above and beyond by staying longer at a local youth tournament. He personally congratulated winners, encouraged those who didn’t take home a trophy, and made time for every supporter seeking a photo or word of encouragement.
Sam Fulling, Managing Director of the Saints Foundation, praised the 22-year-old’s efforts: “Kamaldeen impressed our project staff with his commitment to the sessions and how well he adapted to engage meaningfully with participants.”
PFA Chief Executive Maheta Molango added: “This award highlights how seriously our members take their role beyond football and their ongoing efforts to support their communities.”
Sulemana joins teammate Meg Collett, who was honoured as the women’s team Community Champion, in capping off a strong year of community work by Southampton’s players.
