Defender Jeremie Frimpong suffered an injury on Thursday night during Bayer Leverkusen’s Europa League defeat to Ferencvaros.
The Dutch right-back was brought on in the 71st minute and was kicked out by Marijan Čabraja in the second minute of stoppage time. The Ferencvaros player jumped on Frimpong’s ankle and only saw yellow for the gross foul.
Leverkusen is worried about Frimpong, who was led from the seat into the cabin with great pain.
“He was badly hit on the ankle and further examinations are being carried out at the hotel. It didn’t look so nice,” coach Gerardo Seoane said after the game.
Budapest coach Peter Stöger, however, apologized to Frimpong immediately after the final whistle. Stöger to BILD: “The foul was unnecessary, he doesn’t have to go there like that.”
Commenting on the game, Seoane said: “We are annoyed about the defeat. We prepared the game very carefully and I can’t blame the team for their attitude. But there were some inaccuracies. And we have to work to find solutions to score goals. ”
With Doctors conducting tests to examine the extent of the injury, Frimpong could miss Leverkusen league game against Frankfurt this weekend.
