Sudan’s assistant coach, Ignatius Osei-Fosu, has expressed his disappointment at having to face his home country, Ghana, in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Sudan and Ghana are set to clash in a pivotal match at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday, with both teams desperate for maximum points to boost their qualification chances.
Sudan currently occupies the second automatic qualification spot in Group F, and a positive result could potentially jeopardize Ghana’s hopes of securing a place in the 2025 AFCON.
The match has been billed as a tactical showdown between Sudan’s head coach Kwesi Appiah, a former Black Stars coach, and Ghana’s current boss, Otto Addo. However, Osei-Fosu was quick to downplay the matchup between the coaches, emphasizing Sudan’s focus on qualification rather than any personal rivalry.
“Kwesi Appiah has nothing to prove. His coaching credentials are well known. For me, nobody even knows I’m the assistant coach of Sudan,” Osei-Fosu said. “We just want to qualify, and that’s the aim. It’s unfortunate we have to face Ghana. I wish this match didn’t happen.”
Historically, Sudan has never beaten Ghana on Ghanaian soil, but they will be aiming to change that in Thursday’s crucial encounter.
