Ghanaian midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang Badu is rallying support for Black Stars coach Charles Akonnor because he believes without the necessary support the gaffer will not be successful.
Badu, however, adds it’s too early to start mounting pressure on the former Ghana captain who is yet to play his first competitive game in charge of the Black Stars.
Akonnor was appointed early this year following the departure of Kwasi Appiah, who had been in charge for two and a half years.
The 46-year-old’s recently led the Black Stars to play two international friendlies against Mali and Qatar in Antalya- Turkey.
He has been tasked to end the country’s trophy drought by winning the Africa Cup of Nations which was initially scheduled to take place next year but has been postponed to 2022.
He will play his first competitive game in charge of the Black Stars team in the Afcon Qualifier double-header match against Sudan next month.
Speaking in an interview with Kumasi-based Hello FM, the Hellas Verona star said: ”Ghana national teams have quality players. So, if you are coaching a national team like Ghana pressure will be on you and there is nothing he [Akonnor] can do about it. But he needs to be strong, courageous and know the players that can help him to do something.”
