John Antwi, forward for Dreams FC, shares insights on the team’s remarkable journey in the CAF Confederation Cup, following their historic qualification to the semifinals of the prestigious tournament.
Against all odds, the Ghanaian FA Cup champions secured a coveted spot in the semifinals after a hard-fought victory over Stade Malien, marking their maiden appearance in the competition.
Dreams FC showcased resilience and determination, rallying from behind to secure a crucial draw with Stade Malien in Kumasi, following a decisive 2-1 win in Bamako.
Reflecting on the team’s achievement, Antwi expresses gratitude to divine providence while emphasizing the squad’s commitment to making a significant impact in the tournament. He states, “Before we started our Africa journey, we decided not to just participate in the competition but rather make an impact, so it is not surprising that we have reached the semifinals.”
Antwi, a key addition to the Still Believe lads ahead of the 2023/24 season, has been instrumental in their success, netting an impressive seven goals in the Confederations Cup campaign.
Dreams FC’s historic feat marks a significant milestone in Ghanaian football, as they become the first Ghanaian side to reach the semifinals of the CAF Confederation Cup since Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko achieved the feat in 2005, during the competition’s inaugural edition.
Looking ahead, Dreams FC braces for a formidable challenge as they prepare to face Egyptian giants Zamalek in the semifinals. The eagerly anticipated clash is scheduled to commence with the first leg in Egypt on April 21, 2024, followed by the return leg in Kumasi on April 28, 2024.
