Asante Kotoko striker Kwame Opoku says he is committed to giving his all for the club and does not view himself as a standout figure despite his impressive performances this season.
Opoku rejoined the Porcupine Warriors midway through the 2024/25 campaign and quickly became a key figure, especially in the latter stages. He delivered a match-winning performance in the MTN FA Cup final on Sunday, scoring both goals in Kotoko’s 2-1 win over Golden Kick FC to secure the club’s 10th title in the competition.
In the Ghana Premier League, the 24-year-old made a significant impact as well, netting nine goals and providing two assists in just 17 appearances.
Following his heroics, many fans have hailed him as Kotoko’s talisman, but Opoku remains modest about the praise.
“I see myself like I’m just a normal player that I have to help my club, so it’s not anything special,” he told 3Sports after the FA Cup final.
He added, “If I started the league, maybe I would have done better.”
As Kotoko prepare for next season, including their return to continental football in the CAF Confederation Cup, Opoku is expected to play a crucial role in their quest for success both locally and in Africa.
