Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has revealed that his drive to plan for life after football was inspired by his teammate Samuel Osei Kuffour.
Gyan, who ended his professional football career in June 2023, underscored the significance of preparing for life beyond the sport during his speech at the Afro Sport Summit. He recalled how Kuffour consistently motivated his teammates to think about their futures and prepare for life after their football careers.
“I drew my inspiration from Sammy Osei Kuffour; he always encouraged and reminded us during our playing days to get something done before our time as footballers came to an end,” Gyan shared.
The former Sunderland striker advised young footballers to start planning their future careers early to ensure they have a solid foundation once their playing days are over. Gyan, who remains Ghana’s all-time leading goal scorer with 51 goals and Africa’s top World Cup scorer, stressed the importance of being proactive about one’s future.
Gyan and Kuffour were teammates during the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
