Patrice Motsepe, 59 , was elected unopposed as the president of Confederation of African football on Friday 12 March 2021.
The billionaire becomes the first South African to occupy the most powerful position of African football after succeeding Ahmed Ahmad.
Abdel Aziz Abdallah Salem the first ever CAF boss was an Egyptian. His successor Abdel Aziz Moustafa, who lasted for a decade as boss of African football from 1958 to 1968, was also from Egypt and outgoing Ahmad Ahmad is from Madagascar.
Motsepe is the owner of Mamelodi Sundowns F.C. a Premier league soccer club. In November 2019, Motsepe bought a 37% stake in the Blue Bulls Co. The other major shareholders are Remgro (37%) and Blue Bulls Rugby Union (26%).
