Hearts of Oak legend, Mohammed Polo, has openly called for the dismissal of the club’s head coach, Aboubakar Ouattara, asserting that Ouattara is “not the right man to lead the club.”
Polo’s comments come as the Phobians endure a disappointing start to the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season, where they sit in 12th place with just 9 points from eight games. So far, Hearts of Oak have managed only two wins, alongside three draws and three losses. The latest setback occurred in a 1-0 home defeat to Bibiani GoldStars at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
Speaking to Citi Sports, Polo, a former Hearts coach himself, highlighted his concerns over the club’s technical direction, which he believes lacks the depth needed for success. “I think, you know, there is a problem in the technical direction, and it’s all about Ghana in the technical direction,” he stated. “That is the talent we have here in the country.”
Polo continued, “The coaches need to add some value, which is not there. It is what the coaches, what the players know. It’s what they are doing. There is no additional value. Because I said it already.”
Reflecting on last season’s struggles, Polo reminded fans of Hearts of Oak’s near brush with relegation, which he feels should be a wake-up call. “The last time, Accra Hearts of Oak, that’s last year or season, you remember they nearly went to the relegation,” he remarked. “That’s not the club’s standards, Ouattara is not the right man to lead the club, and so I agree with fans calling for his sack.”
Hearts of Oak will look to turn their season around as they face Medeama SC at the TNA Park in their upcoming Matchday 9 fixture.
