West Ham United manager Graham Potter has thrown his support behind Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kudus, praising his overall contributions to the team despite his struggles in front of goal this season.
Kudus has managed just three goals and two assists in 27 appearances across all competitions, enduring a frustrating 13-game goal drought. Earlier in the campaign, he faced a significant setback after receiving a five-game suspension and a hefty fine for slapping a Tottenham defender.
His current form is a stark contrast to his outstanding debut season with the Hammers, but Potter remains confident in his abilities. Speaking ahead of West Ham’s midweek Premier League clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers, the coach acknowledged that Kudus might be disappointed with his numbers but insisted that his contributions go beyond just scoring.
“I think Mo has had probably a season that, from his perspective, would be a little bit disappointing, not because of his lack of effort or anything like that, but sometimes these things happen,” Potter stated.
He further highlighted Kudus’ influence in games, even when he doesn’t directly contribute to goals.
“How he contributed, for example, against Arsenal in our win there, even though he didn’t score or assist, he was a top, top player in that game and massively helped us,” he added.
