Game week 8 is upon us in this still very embryonic yet thoroughly enthralling and competitive league season. If we’ve learnt any lessons so far, it is that as unpredictable as campaigns come this is it with some of the results and performances so far impressing the masses. Now onto the week 8 action.
At the Golden City Park in Berekum, Chelsea will look to get back to winning ways after suffering their first setback of the season having been stunned by Bechem United last time out. They come up against a somewhat resurgent Karela side who also saw off Legon Cities comprehensively last weekend.
Bottom placed Ebusua Dwarfs could be really in for it and could have their early season struggles compounded when they welcome league leaders Aduana Stars to the Cape Coast Sports stadium.
In Techiman, 13th placed Eleven Wonders play hosts to Inter allies at the Ohene Ameyaw Park looking to arrest their rather wobbling home form. Inter Allies however could find themselves in the drop zone should results not go their way after this round of games amassing just 7 points after 7 games.
Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports stadium welcome Ashantigold in what is surely the topliner of these midweek games.
The Phobians have had an indifferent start to the campaign so far but an impressive victory over Dreams in Dawu after losing the super clash to Kotoko to bounce back in such style means Hearts should be relishing this encounter.
Ashgold have had their own topsy-turvy ride so far this season but will most certainly represent very tough proposition for Hearts on Thursday night. It could turn out to be a riveting encounter.
In ‘a last end of the table’ encounter, King Faisal lock horns with Great Olympics in a clash which could prove crucial in the race to avoid the drop. King Faisal find themselves in all sorts of trouble and are firmly in the battle for survival never mind how pretty early it still is at this stage of the season and will be in the hunt for their first victory of the campaign. Great Olympics suffered their first reversal in 4 games and will see this clash as the perfect opportunity to get their season back on track.
At the Carl Reindorf Park in Dansoman, Liberty are at home to Dreams in this middle of the table encounter with both teams on absolute level pegging with ten points apiece with dreams ahead of Liberty by virtue of a slightly superior goal advantage.
Liberty know they should have picked maximum points versus Asante Kotoko after dominating for large spells of the game last weekend only to be undone by their own wastefulness and will be looking to correct that against Dreams.
The Dawu based club will also be looking to bounce back after a rather disappointing home loss Hearts of Oak
In Tarkwa, Medeama will be buoyant of returning to winning ways after their week 7 setback against Aduana in Dormaa as they welcome Bechem United to the Akoon Park. However, the Bechem based club also come into this one full of confidence after applying the brakes on Chelsea.
Legon Cities have had loads of chances to have something to show for the acclaim and rave reviews they have enjoyed so far but they have spurned all of them culminating in the 0-3 humiliating defeat to Karela in Tarkwa last Friday.
Languishing firmly in the drop zone with just 6 points after 7 games, time is running out for the new boys to walk the talk and it is such fixtures versus Elmina Sharks at home where statements of intent could be sent to the rest of the division. Sharks have fared quite admirably so far and lie a quietly respectable 11th on the standings and will be anything but pushovers.
Finally in Sogakope, WAFA play hosts to Asante Kotoko in another mouthwatering encounter to look forward to.
The Academy boys surely will be relishing this one especially playing in front of what is expected to be a very vociferous home crowd and coming from their well-earned victory over Olympics last weekend.
A lot has been said of their inability to batter opponents into submission at home like in previous campaigns and their 0-0 stalemate with Hearts of Oak earlier on in the campaign did not help quash such notion as they were expected to make light work of Hearts. Another of such top rival are in town and they could be up for this one.
Asante Kotoko have issues they need to sort out and fast if they still harbor thoughts of winning the championship this season and there was no clearer indication than the drab underwhelming performance they put up versus Liberty. Sogakope, though daunting, might be a very good place to start.
