The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has suspended Asante Kotoko Monday’s Premier League fixture with Inter Allies as it complies with government’s decision to suspend football activities.
The decisions take immediate effect and come as part of interventions to control the spread of the novel Coronavirus whose spread is as fast as its fatality rate.
The Porcupines are in Accra preparing for the matchday-15 at the Accra Sports Stadium, but a release by the GFA on Sunday states that the game would not come on..
The Ministry of Health on Sunday confirmed four new Coronavirus cases raising the of number of sufferers to six.
The announcement was followed by a meeting President Nana Akufu-Addo and the Inter-Ministerial Coronavirus Response following which the former directed the immediate halt of football activities among other social gatherings.
“The GFA following the directives given by the President of the Republic on Sunday, March 15, 2020, has suspended all its competitions with immediate effect until further notice,” it said.
“In a statement released last week, the GFA announced that while all competitions will go ahead as scheduled it will continue to liaise with Government, the Ghana Health Service and the Ministry of Health and follow all national health protocols on the matter.”
“The Government of Ghana announced new protocols on Sunday and consequently the GFA will immediately follow the new issued protocols and guidelines.”
“The Association will continue to engage the relevant institutions on this matter and update its members and all stakeholders of any changes.”
