Ghana’s top swimmer, Abeku Jackson, has been elected Vice Chairperson of the Africa Aquatics Athletes Commission, becoming the first Ghanaian to serve on the continental body. The announcement followed a recent Bureau meeting that confirmed new members for a four-year term.
Benin’s Marc Pascal Pierre Dansou will chair the commission, while Holyantsa Rabejaona from Madagascar takes up the position of Secretary. The Africa Aquatics Athletes Commission plays a vital role in representing the interests of athletes across the continent, ensuring their voices are heard in governance and policy decisions within the sport.
Abeku’s election adds to his impressive career achievements. Earlier this year, he won five medals — including four gold — at the 2025 Africa Aquatics Zone 2 Championships held at the Borteyman Sports Complex in Accra, where Ghana secured a total of 69 medals.
The Team Ghana captain has represented the country at several major international competitions, including the 2016 and 2020 Olympic Games. He also made history at the 2023 African Games by ending Ghana’s long-standing swimming medal drought with silver and bronze finishes.
His new leadership role is expected to strengthen Ghana’s influence in African swimming and inspire a new generation of athletes across the continent.
