Chelsea are close to finalizing a new contract for promising 18-year-old defender Josh Acheampong, putting an end to the uncertainty surrounding his future at the club.
The English-Ghanaian defender had previously turned down a contract extension, which led to his exclusion from first-team plans under manager Enzo Maresca. This decision created doubts about his long-term role at Stamford Bridge.
Recent negotiations, however, have seen significant progress, with Chelsea outlining a clear vision for Acheampong’s development. The talks are now in the final stages, and an agreement is expected to be reached soon, ensuring Acheampong remains a key part of the club’s plans.
Speaking on the ongoing discussions, Maresca shared his excitement, stating, “The club loves Josh. I love Josh. We are almost there for his new deal.” His words highlight the faith Chelsea has in the young defender’s potential.
Acheampong’s commitment to Chelsea marks a crucial step in his career. While he has represented England at the youth level, his Ghanaian heritage still makes him eligible to play for the Black Stars in the future.
