Ghanaian midfielder Edmund Baidoo has been recognized by Sofascore for his outstanding performance in the Norwegian 1. Divisjon, earning a spot in the team of the week for week 16.
Baidoo’s impressive display came in Sogndal’s 4-0 thrashing of Start, where he scored one goal and played a key role in the team’s dominant victory. The match, held at the Fosshaugane Campus, saw Sogndal take control from the start, despite Start having more possession.
The head-to-head record between the two teams before the clash stood at 4 wins for Sogndal, 9 wins for Start, and 6 draws. However, Sogndal’s superiority was evident from the start, with captain Per-Egil Flo opening the scoring in the 18th minute. Baidoo, who started the game and played for 78 minutes, doubled the lead before the break.
Erik Flataker added two more goals in the second half, scoring in the 63rd and 65th minutes to secure a comprehensive victory for Sogndal. Fellow Ghanaian Isaac Twum came on in the 80th minute to replace Oskar Borgthorsson, adding to Sogndal’s strength.
At just 18 years old, Baidoo has been a standout performer this season, making 16 appearances, scoring eight goals, and providing four assists in the 2024 Norwegian 1. Divisjon. With his impressive form, he is expected to continue playing a key role for Sogndal as they look to continue their winning streak.
Sogndal will travel to face Egersund in their next league game on August 3rd, looking to maintain their momentum.
